Jordan's Yard

[Jordan's Yard from Bridge St - LHS] In the 1990s it seems the 1970s were a disaster in planning terms: actually there were some successes. In 1972 the historic frontage of Bridge Street near the Round Church was saved from developers and was sympathetically restored (eventually - in 1975-1977) as the Jordan's Yard development.

The City Council had tried to demolish the buildings in 1968 but were stopped by the County Council, using new planning legislation.

The area is almost the last survival of the many interesting medieval lanes off Bridge Street.

The first picture shows the corner of Bridge Street and the second shows the timber-framed building with the entrance to Jordan's Yard proper.

One of the buildings still shows an earlier use as a bawdy house.
